A CERTIFIED SUCCESS

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID

Last week, Everett Public School graduated 2 cohorts of new Mental Health First Aid certified staff members. Principals, Assistant Principal's, Family Liaisons and Admin Assistants had the opportunity to obtain a 3-year certification to provide Mental Health First Aid to students in our care. Once Everett Public Schools certifies 10% of our staff with this training program, we are able to bring this important training program to our students (16-18 years-old).

If you have taken the Mental Health First Aid training course, either through EPS or on your own, please share with us a copy of your certificate so we know who you are!

CELEBRATING OUR STAFF!

GREAT JOB, CRYSTAL!

A loud shout out to Whittier School teacher Crystal Connors for her heroic actions during this week’s Acceleration Academy. During lunch on Thursday, Ms. Connors noticed fifth-grade student Thaylla Clara De Jesus Martins choking, and quickly and successfully performed the Heimlich Maneuver. We join Thaylla’s family in extending our deepest gratitude to Ms. Connors. Above, Ms. Connors is pictured with Thaylla.

WINNING WAYSIDE

Staff at Everett HIgh School held a celebration for students who completed the first part of the Wayside Cultural Program. Special thanks to Esthela Borghesani and Sara Paiva for bringing this program to Everett Public Schools, to Gladys Valle and Patrick Quigley for planning the graduation, and to EHS's culinary department for preparing delicious Latin American, Brazilian, and Haitian food for the celebration.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EPS STAFF

READING COMMITTEE

The EPS is seeking educators to join our Reading Committee. Members of this team will plan, develop, and facilitate the district’s Reading Institute, a multi-day professional development event that helps upper elementary and secondary teachers build their knowledge and skills in teaching students to read. MERRIMACK PARTNERSHIP

The Everett Public Schools is pleased to announce a partnership with Merrimack College that allows all EPS teachers and staff to receive a 10 percent discount on tuition for any of MC’s online master’s and bachelor’s completion programs. CAREER ROADMAPS

The EPS needs Career and Technical Education (CTE) and English Learner (EL) teachers to help revise current CTE curriculum maps to include equitable and culturally responsive practices. Team members will work with school leaders and coaches to strengthen the learning experience for English Learners. Participants will also build cultural competency and accessibility strategies through professional development and collaboration.

TEST REMINDER

A quick and friendly reminder to all staff to take one of the at-home COVID-19 tests we distributed to the entire EPS community last week. Please take the test on Sunday, February 27th, in advance of our return to school on Monday. If you test positive, please inform your school leaders as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for your continued commitment to keeping each other safe.
