Payroll Update

In case you missed the email we sent out yesterday:

Last week the City and School Department transitioned to a new HR system called MUNIS. As part of this switch there are a few items we would like to highlight:
  • The new payroll vendor uses Annualized tax tables. This is different from how the previous system calculated taxes, and it might cause a change in how your tax deductions are calculated. Annualized tax tables are what the IRS recommends, and more information can be found HERE.

  • The column for “Year to Date” totals coincides with the new payroll vendor’s start date in Everett. We recommend you keep the last payroll stubs from the previous payroll vendor in order to have the year to date totals for the first three months of this calendar year.

  • An addition to this new system will be the addition of vacation, sick day, and personal day accruals, which will be included on paychecks shortly. More information on how you can access this information via an Employee Self Service feature will be coming soon.

  • Hourly rate for hourly employees is currently not showing up on pay stubs, but will be updated for future ones.

Thank you for your continued patience during this conversion. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Human Resources Director Tony Wyman at [email protected].

A Morning of Music

Thanks to Webster School music teacher and choral instructor Rose Whitcomb and her students for holding a lively and upbeat performance for families earlier this month. Thanks, also, to the parents, guardians, and relatives who attended the event, which was held at the start of the school day. It goes to show that the district’s tremendous success in music starts at a young age!  Above, Superintendent Priya Tahiliani is pictured with Ms. Whitcomb, Assistant Superintendent Kevin Shaw, and Webster Principal Chris Barrett.

JEANS DAY FUNDRAISER

The EPS will hold a Jeans Day Fundraiser on Friday, April 28th to benefit the Boston Wounded Vet Run, a motorcycle fundraiser that has raised thousands of dollars for seriously wounded Massachusetts combat veterans. This is the 12th and final year for this worthwhile fundraiser. Please make your $5 contribution to your building’s Administrative Assistant and forward all final collections to Ella DiPrima at the Webster School.

Opportunities for Staff

TEACHER MENTORS

The district is seeking mentors to help teachers who are pursuing professional teacher status while working in Everett Public Schools. They  are responsible for training assigned mentees in instructional strategies, curricula and operational processes necessary to perform their job responsibilities effectively and efficiently.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: IDEAS AND PLANNING

The Curriculum Team has developed THIS SURVEY to help produce the 2023-2023 Professional Development Catalog. Please give us your thoughts so we can plan relevant and engaging offerings for all teachers across all grade levels and subject areas.

Additionally, we are asking teachers and staff to serve on our volunteer Professional Development Committee. The group will develop the course offerings for the 23-24 catalog, based on teacher feedback, district-wide initiatives, student performance indicators, and innovative training opportunities that align with the district’s instructional mission and vision and/or culturally and linguistically responsive practices. The group will meet about 4 times via zoom and there will also be asynchronous work.

Meetings will be held via Zoom from 3-4 p.m. on four consecutive Mondays — May 1st, May 8th, May 15th, and May 22nd.

To join the Professional Development Committee, please email Genevieve McDonough at [email protected] and Rupi Kaur at [email protected] by April 24th.
