Staff Members Attend Student Support Conference
Members of the EPS Social and Emotional Learning Team had the honor of serving on the panel at the 2023 Spotlight on SEL and Mental Health: Enhancing Systems of Student Support Conference in Devens. SEL leaders talked about systemic development in SEL and mental health, while EPS staff members presented on the effectiveness of Calming Corners.  The conference brought together educators and practitioners from across the state to highlight the incredible work taking place in schools and districts as they seek to address the mental and behavioral health needs of Massachusetts students. The keynote speaker was Dr. Kevin M. Simon, MD, the City of Boston’s Chief Behavioral Health Officer.

TEACHERS NEEDED: SERVE AS A CURATE PANELIST!

High quality instructional materials are essential to student learning. When combined with effective instruction, they can also promote racial equity. Join the CUrriculum RAtings by TEachers (CURATE) Project to help rate and review instructional materials for quality!

DESE and the Rennie Center are seeking educators for the following content areas to review high-quality curricular materials in Fall 2023:  Digital Literacy and Computer Science, K-5 English/Language Arts, K-5 Science, 9-12. This panel is tentative and will be confirmed in mid-June. Math 6-8

CURATE convenes over the course of one semester, including nine hours of professional development over the summer, and 4-6 virtual sessions to collaboratively evaluate and rate curricular materials. The work of CURATE panels results in a series of brief user-friendly reports to support Massachusetts educators in making more informed curriculum choices.

You do NOT have to be an expert in curriculum development or selection to participate. If you have an interest in high-quality curriculum and a passion for racial equity, then we are eager to partner with you! Teachers of color are highly encouraged to apply. Panelists will receive a maximum stipend of $2000. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on  June 8, 2023.
