Janet Taylor Appointed Principal of the Lafayette School

A decorated educator and an established leader in the Everett Public Schools (EPS) has been appointed Principal of the Lafayette School by Superintendent William D. Hart. Janet Taylor, a 15-year EPS veteran, is moving from her assistant principal’s post at the George Keverian School to the Lafayette, a K-8 school that is home to more than 1,000 students and 165 teachers and employees. She succeeds David Brady, who will become the district’s Title I Director.

“Ms. Taylor has the educational, leadership, operational, and family-engagement skills the Lafayette School deserves,” said Superintendent Hart. “As an experienced assistant principal in the EPS, Ms. Taylor is ideally suited to oversee a smooth and successful transition and to continue and build upon the awesome things that are happening at the Lafayette.”

The formal introduction took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in the Lafayette School Cafetorium. Superintendent Hart was joined by the district’s leadership team, teachers and staff, Mr. Brady, and Assistant Principal Stephen Venezia.

Calling it “an honor and a privilege” to be appointed principal, Ms. Taylor said is committed to “creating a space where we can all learn together.”

Ms. Taylor was a first-grade teacher at the Webster and Keverian schools from 2009 through 2016. In August of 2016, she was named Assistant Principal of the Albert N. Parlin School. She has served as an Assistant Principal at the Keverian since August of 2019. As an administrator, she distinguished herself in all areas of building leadership, including budgeting, scheduling, state reporting, curriculum, professional development, testing and evaluations, special education, and social emotional learning.  In 2023, she received a Distinguished Educator Award from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for exhibiting:
  • The ability to reflect on her work and use anti-racist and culturally and linguistically sustaining practices.
  • Exceptional educational talent as evidenced by effective, innovative, and culturally responsive instructional practices that promote deeper learning.
  • Exemplary educational accomplishments and leadership beyond the classroom that provide models of excellence for the profession.
  • Contributions to education that are largely unheralded yet worthy of the spotlight.
  • Strong long-range potential for professional and policy leadership.
  • An engaging and inspiring presence that motivates and impacts students, colleagues, and the community.
In the coming days and weeks, Ms. Taylor will work with Mr. Brady, and Assistants Mr. Venezia and Alessandro Cornelio as well as the Keverian leadership team, to ensure a smooth transition at both schools.
